My solitary explorations in Hyderabad, during what would have otherwise been a boring vacation, led to a splendid discovery when I stumbled into a beautiful park last week, located right in the heart of the city. The GKS Melkote park in Narayanaguda has been one of my favourite haunts since then. I came to know that it was built at the energetic initiative of a young BJP MLA called Kishan Reddy who has acquired a reputation for being a clean, development centred MLA which has given him an aura of invincibility in the Himayatnagar assembly constituency.
Curious to know more about him, I asked my elder brother Krishna, who rarely agrees with me on any point (fortunately the BJP is not one of those bones of contention between us). Krishna gave me a neat 80 page booklet about Kishan Reddy which was distributed to all the houses in the constituency during the recent Lok Sabha election campaign. Even a cursory glance at his achievements left me in no doubt that Kishan Reddy is to be counted as a beacon of hope for the party’s future in Andhra Pradesh.
The UNICEF recognised him as the ‘Best Child Friendly MLA’ for his special contribution to child welfare
through awareness campaigns and medical camps on child well-being. Perhaps, his most significant contribution till now is the transformation he has effected in government schools by improving their infrastructure and environment. A 10th std called Mounika studying from one such corporation school created history by securing 537 marks, the highest score in the public examination from Hyderabad. The voluminous 80 page booklet is itself a testimony to his long list of achievements in public service, where other MLAs may not even have done enough to fill a pamphlet during their whole political career.
Kishan Reddy is one person whom I can now safely bet on in the BJP, I am sure we will hear more about him in the coming years, assuming of course that the ‘dushta chatushtayam’ – Advani, Sudheendra Kulkarni, Rajnath Singh and Brajesh Mishra and their coterie vacate their stranglehold on the BJP and allow such Abhimanyus in the BJP to rise.
